Outback Regional Development Organisation Inc. recognised early in its work to address social and economic impediments that people in the Outback needed to have access to IT technologies. In fact there was a hunger for it.

In 1999, the Federal Government (Networking the Nation) approved funding to establish telecentres in rural and remote communities by the Outback Regional Development Organisation Inc. This was the foundation of the Outback Telecentre Network Inc.

Part of the project included developing websites that would add value to communities. A separate project – www.Outback.net.au Ltd. was formed to manage this part of the project.

www.Outback.net.au Ltd has 3 websites – www.Outback.net.au (which is in the process of being revamped), www.OTNI.org.au  and now www.OutbackVoice.org.au
